August Monthly Challenge

It's time for Urban Scrapbook's monthly Design Team layout.  This month the layout kit is filled with goodies from October Afternoon's Travel Girl collection.  Here's my layout:

In the kit, there's a 12 x 12 piece of adhesive backed canvas and I just had to alter it!  There are some wood embellishments also, so I glued them onto my canvas.  Then I applied gesso on right over the wood parts and sections of the canvas.  After it dried, I applied Tim Holtz Distress paint that I had put a small amount with a bit of water into a mini mister.  I also used some Lindy's Starburst sprays.  After my canvas was completed, I peeled off the adhesive backing and adhered it to a piece of card stock, distressing the edges and adding a bit of Inca Gold Copper to the edges also.  I adhered it to my patterned paper.

I finished off my layout with October Afternoon banners, embellishments, and photos!  There seems to be more and more wood embellishments with the new collections, this is another fun way to alter them.

Have a great weekend!

CHA Projects

I have two more layouts to share from CHA.  This winter one is featuring Tim Holtz's new paper collection, "Merriment".

I'll just give you a quick explanation of what I did.

I painted the center of my background paper with Picket Fence Distress Paint, added some patterned papers (the red one has added white Christmastime Remnant Rub-ons) and Merriment Tissue tape.
My snowflakes are Sizzix's Tim Holtz Snowflake Rosette and Mini Snowflake Rosettes with tissue tape in the middle.  I also used Sizzix's new Tim Holtz Ornate Frame and Snowflake Garland.

One of my favourite embellishments in this new release is the metal skates!  I added Tim Holtz Rock Candy Crackle paint to my metal embellishments, and while wet, added Rock Candy Glitter.  It gave the metal pieces a frosty look.  Just can't use a little bit of glitter, so I added it to my snowflakes and frame also.  Some of the rub-on snowflakes were applied to clear plastic and cut out, so they look more dimensional.

My last CHA project to share is this layout featuring the collection, Laboratorie.

It all started with the frame, which is made with Sizzix's Tim Holtz Postage Stamp Frame die, Oval Movers & Shapers Die and Shattered Core-dinations card stock.

I cut out about 4 - 6 of the frames with the oval center from my card stock.  To keep them all attached, I  take a small hole punch ( I think it's 1/8 or 1/16, not sure) and punch all around the outside of the oval.  I hand stitch with heavy  thread or twine.  I do this because, next I take all the frames and run them under warm water.  After they are fairly wet, carefully blot with a paper towel to remove excess water.  Carefully manipulate your wet paper, curling it up on the edges.  I let it dry and then painted a few layers of different paint colours, distress ink and rock candy crackle paint.  I think that the more uneven and more layers you use, the better it turns out!  I added an Idea-ology skeleton charm (painted) to the frame to finish it off.

Also, used on my layout are new Tim Holtz Observation Word Bands, Laboratorie Tissue Tape, Apothecary Remnant Rubs, Naturals Black & White Trimmings, and the Sizzix Apothecary Bottles die and Sizzix Outline Labels Embossing Set.  Loved these embossed labels, I painted the manilla die cut with Picket fence stain and after it was dry, embossed with Ranger's Rust embossing powder.  The bottles with rub-ons and cut out labels were inked and then coated with Rocky Candy Crackle paint.  I embossed the bottom of my paper with Sizzix's Tim Holtz Cracked Texture Fade.  My "Trimmings flower" was small pieces of the ribbon knotted around an Idea-ology gear.
Well, that's the last of my projects for Tim's booth.  I wanted to do a few more, but time ran out!
After having the opportunity of using some of his new products, I can't wait for them to arrive at the store!
Until next time,

Believe

Hi everyone, today I'm sharing another layout that I did for Tim Holtz and his CHA booth.

I created this layout using papers from his new Christmas collection, Merriment and Collage Mini Papers.

As I'm looking at this, I'm thinking, what did I do to those bells?  I think the Sizzix chipboard bells were covered with patterned paper and foil paper, painted, crackled with Rock Candy Crackle paint, glittered(Rock Candy Glitter), and inked. The Tim Holtz Ribbon Strips, On the Edge Star Cluster, and Packages are all new dies,  I lightly painted the larger package with Picket Fence stain, let it dry, and then printed my journaling.  Usually I print out my title or journaling on regular printer paper, then tape the chosen die-cut over top with removable tape and run through the printer again.  Much nicer looking than my handwriting!
There's some of Tim's new trimmings, his stars (alcohol inked), and his white rub-ons.  The word "Believe" is Tim Holtz Industrious stickers, altered with alcohol ink, glitter, and a bit of Picket Fence paint.
Loved using the Christmas bell die-cuts, can't wait to get that die!
I love this photo of my son, daughter and niece.  Someone told them they could hear Santa's bells outside, so they ran over to the window to see if they could see Santa!  They looked so cute, all standing there at the window.
I still have two more layouts to share, but I'll save those for another day!
Have a great day,
